I know most of us are still processing our feelings (or trying to process) over the Daunte Wright murder and the Derek Chauvin trial. And in us just trying to survive, we want to make sure that we are processing in a healthy manner. Below are a few tips to help you have a good day in your marriage even if you are having a bad day everywhere else.

1. Don't dwell in it

Even when things are stressing you out, or not going as planned, acknowledge your feelings. Share your concerns and thoughts by talking with your spouse, praying, or journaling. If it’s your marriage that is going through a rough spell, talk with a trusted accountability partner (and not social media). Just don't stay in that negative space.

2. Don't be a bug-a-boo

If it is your spouse that is having the tough day, don't poke the sleeping bear. Unless it is a decision or discussion that is urgent and MUST happen; just give them space. You do not want to add to their concerns or emotional load.

3. Don't wait to get professional help

If you are experiencing consecutive days of emotional struggle, please seek professional help! I know in the black community therapy has a negative connotation, but it is extremely beneficial! Also, the earlier you start, the better. It will keep you from feeling isolated within your marriage or keep your marriage from drowning.

REMEMBER:

We are all human beings who have days that leave us feeling defeated and forgotten, and desiring to love and be loved in return. So just love! Just like Jesus loves us...we should just love because love does (and will) cover a multitude of sins.
