Living Together First Can Test If The Marriage Will Be Successful
I grew up really churchy and something
that was always told to me was to never "shack up"
with a boyfriend because he will "never want to buy the cow if he can get the milk for free." Anyone else ever been told that?
According to the statistics, you have about a 50%
chance that your cohabitation will result in a marriage (and I'm not saying that it is wrong for you all to live together before marriage or not). But what I do know is that living together before getting married does not mean that your marriage is going to be successful.
Cohabitation teaches you how to live with your
significant other, such as their cleaning and spending habits, but things change when you get married. You go from a roommate living situation to a lifelong marital covenant, where there are different expectations and demands on the relationship.
Don't let the idea of living together become your
indicator on if your marriage will last or not. It is not a fair and equal comparison!
Your marriage will be successful if both people in it are committed to the marriage and be willing to become better each and every day.
